What is a backlink?A backlink is when another website links to your website.
What is reciprocal linking, or a reciprocal linking campaign?Reciprocal linking is when you and another website establish links to each other, for the benefit of both websites. Google gives both websites a better ranking on the engine, because both sites now have one backlink (or more) from each other.
A reciprocal linking campaign is when you ask other webmasters to link up with your website and establish relations.
Link building is an important aspect of search engine optimization. It is a must on the Internet these days. There are several different forms of link building. There are many services out there that claim they can get you hundreds, even thousands of backlinks - these are mostly phony.
Relevant linking is greater then hundreds of linksThe major thing you have to keep in mind is Google assigns relevance to websites. If you have a skateboard website linking to a perfume website, these two websites are not relevant. Irrelevant links like this will not help you that much. You need to establish relevant backlinks to your website. So this means skateboard websites establish links with other skateboard websites, and beauty websites establish links with other beauty websites.
What about getting links from directories?Many directories are good, but finding the right ones is the major task. Once you find a few you like, you'll want to come back to these ones and use them over and over. This is because of the following reasons
- Many directories charge money for site inclusion. If they do not charge, they will take weeks to months to get your website added.
- Many directories do not physically link back to your website once added. They use a rel=nofollow so Google does not follow the link to your website.
